Did you know that wine tasting goes back to the days of european kings? Royal wine tasters sampled the wine to make sure it contained no poisons before it was served to the king.
Today, royal tasteres are call sommeliers. A sommelier is a french word for wine steward. At the more formal or elegant restaurants, a sommelier wears a tuxedo and a chaine with a small cup for wine tasting. The cup is called a tastevin. The sommelier when helping to select a wine will also open and taste the wine before allowing you to taste it.
